# Poldoore
Stage name of Thomas Schillebeeckx, Belgian producer born 2 December 1988. Works in instrumental hip-hop/downtempo, blending boom-bap-style beats with jazz, soul, dub, and electronic textures — heavy on sampling and chopped-up live instrumentation, made in a home studio full of analog gear.
## Background
Spent parts of his youth in both Belgium and the US. Got into production young, drawn in by sample-based artists like Aim and DJ Shadow — tracing their music back to its original sampled source material reportedly shaped his own hands-on, crate-digging approach to beatmaking.
## Career
Debut album *Street Bangerz Vol. 6: Playhouse* (2012) was picked up by LA downtempo label Cold Busted and quickly topped Beatport's charts — a hip-hop-driven record drawing comparisons to boom-bap figures like DJ Premier, 9th Wonder, and Pete Rock. Single "But I Do" has racked up tens of millions of streams. Has released remixes and collaborations for artists including Wax Tailor, Emancipator, Hermitude, Talib Kweli, Gramatik, and Selah Sue, situating him within the broader instrumental/downtempo-hip-hop scene those artists share.
## Discography (studio albums)
- *Street Bangerz Vol. 6: Playhouse* (2012)
- *The Day Off* (2014)
- *The Day After* (2016)
- *Mosaic* (2019) — features collaborations with ASM (A State of Mind), Balkan Bump, and Awon
## Notes to self
- Companion listening to [[Misc./Music/Thievery Corporation|Thievery Corporation]] territory — different genre lineage (hip-hop/boom-bap vs. lounge/dub) but similar sample-heavy, mood-first instrumental approach.
- Haven't sat with the full catalogue — "But I Do" is the entry point, worth going back to *Mosaic* for the more recent, more collaborative sound.
