# RÜFÜS DU SOL
Australian indie-dance/electronic trio from Sydney, formed in 2010. Known for lush, melodic, festival-friendly dance music that sits somewhere between indie rock songwriting and house/electronic production — emotionally direct rather than strictly club-functional, which has made them one of the biggest live draws in electronic music.
## Formation
Jon George (keyboards/production), James Hunt (drums/percussion), and Tyrone Lindqvist (vocals/guitar) formed the band in November 2010, the story goes, after a rained-out holiday in Byron Bay turned into an impromptu jam session. Originally performed simply as RÜFÜS in Australia.
## Name change
As the band's international profile grew, a naming conflict in the US market forced the "Du Sol" addition for American audiences; the two names ran in parallel for years before the band consolidated on RÜFÜS DU SOL globally in 2018.
## Sound and rise
Debut album *Atlas* (2013) topped the Australian charts. *Bloom* (2016) — with singles "You Were Right," "Like an Animal," and especially "Innerbloom," a nearly 10-minute slow-building anthem that became something of a scene staple — pushed them further into international recognition. *Solace* (2018) reached No. 2 in Australia. *Surrender* (2021) was their commercial and critical peak to date, reaching No. 1 and featuring "Alive," which won the band a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Recording in 2022. They've since become known for one of the highest-grossing electronic live tours ever mounted, with *Inhale / Exhale* (2024) — a conceptual double album split into two halves — as their most recent full studio release.

## Notes to self
- "Innerbloom" is the one track of theirs I keep coming back to — worth sitting with *Bloom* in full rather than just that song.
- Haven't spent real time with *Inhale / Exhale* yet.
