# Viagra Boys
Swedish post-punk band from Stockholm, formed 2015. Loud, sardonic, deeply weird — the band's whole aesthetic runs on satire and dark humor aimed at hypermasculinity, conspiracy-brained internet culture, and general societal absurdity, wrapped in a sound that mixes post-punk, noise rock, sax-driven skronk, and a kind of deadpan, sneering delivery from frontman Sebastian Murphy.
## Formation
Formed by musicians who'd been active in various other Stockholm bands (Nine, Les Big Byrd, Pig Eyes, Nitad, Neu-Ronz). The founding story: tattoo artist Henrik Höckert heard fellow tattoo artist Sebastian Murphy do a karaoke rendition of Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" and decided on the spot they needed to start a band together.
## Lineup
Sebastian Murphy (vocals), Linus Hillborg (guitar), Elias Jungqvist (keyboards), Henrik "Benke" Höckert (bass), Tor Sjödén (drums), Oskar Carls (saxophone).
## Sound and rise
Debut *Street Worms* (2018) established the template: aggressive, funny, unsettling post-punk with a strong satirical streak. *Welfare Jazz* (2021) broadened the sound further, and *Cave World* (2022) kept up the momentum, winning them a Swedish Grammis award for Rock of the Year in 2023 and a support slot on Queens of the Stone Age's North American tour that year. Most recent album is *Viagr Aboys* (2025), released on their own newly launched label, Shrimptech Enterprises.

## Notes to self
- Haven't sat with the new one (*Viagr Aboys*) yet.
- The satire-of-hypermasculinity angle is worth keeping in mind when listening — some of it reads as straightforwardly aggressive on first listen if you miss the joke.
